How I Accomplished Stunning Fat Loss From A Simple Boxing Workout

It is no coincidence that our boxing training gloves and hand wraps are the current flagship products for our company.  Although both my best friend and co-founder and I are both huge boxing and martial arts fans in general, it was my personal experience with boxing and the impact on my health and fitness that led us to launch these products, to begin with.

….and not for the better!  Although I was a former athlete, I never ate the right way but got away with it for the most part.  Finally, these bad eating habits caught up with me.  When I was a college baseball player, I could never weigh more than 180 lbs no matter what I ate.  A few years after my last game, I was no longer 180 lbs., I was 225!  It felt like it happened overnight.  Although I was only in my mid-twenties, I was out of shape and would gas out quickly any time I simply tried to go for a jog.

Sensing I needed to do something quick, I thought about what I could do that would get me back in shape.  I’ve always been a fan of variety in my workouts, and I’ve also traditionally done better with structure.  I also liked having a coach and being part of a team.  I thought about getting into biking or running, but that didn’t really excite me or fit my criteria.   As a former baseball player with a shoulder issue, I’ve also never been a huge fan of heavy lifting either.  Plus, I don’t generally enjoy the atmosphere of strictly weight lifting gyms.

With these thoughts in mind, I decided that boxing was something that I felt ticked all of these boxes.  I’d always wanted to box growing up but had been so busy with other sports I had never really done much other than goof around sparring with my buddies (not recommended and definitely not safe without trainer supervision!).  The route that I decided to go with my boxing training was to find an actual personal boxing trainer at a real boxing gym.  I was able to find a trainer and gym quickly, and the results were as follows:

  • In roughly a year’s time, I went from 225lbs to 175lbs
  • Fought in a USA Boxing Amateur event (you don’t have to take it this far, I am hyper- competitive)
  • Gained a fundamental base of self-defense that I can use for the rest of my life
  • Made new life-long friends in the gym
  • Found a fun way to exercise
  • Developed a life-long passion for the sport that would profoundly influence the launch of Kakoa Sports

I hope if you have been on the fence about adding a boxing workout to your fitness routine, reading about my experience has helped encourage you to do so.  If you are currently using boxing for exercise right now, let us know how it’s going and what benefits you are seeing!
